Team Interaction Modelling Workshop

  • LIVE in Melbourne ( Timezone AEDT) 452 Flinders Street Melbourne, VIC, 3000 Australia (map)

We're thrilled to be hosting a live, in-person workshop in February with Team Topologies advocates Luke McManus and Rob Roe!

(Note for our inter-state members, as this is an in-person workshop it will not be available remotely - we'll be organising a separate remote workshop at another time - stay tuned!)

Team Interaction Modelling Workshop
A workshop to teach participants about the key concepts from the book Team Topologies - and how to apply the Team Topologies modeling shapes to explore organisation dynamics.

Using the Team Topologies shapes and diagramming principles, it is possible to create a series of snapshots of an organisation at various points in time that help you to understand and reason behind how and why the teams within an organisation communicate and interact.

This workshop provides an in-depth introduction to how to use Team Interaction Modeling (TIM) to effectively capture, annotate and discuss organisation evolution within the content of your organisation.

The battle-tested shapes are the fastest way to model and visualise different options for team responsibilities and interactions based on the ideas in the Team Topologies book.

Speakers

Luke McManus is an Agile coach with over 20 years of experience in technology and delivery roles. Passionate about fostering collaboration and enabling business agility, he specializes in guiding teams and leaders to deliver exceptional products and services that delight customers.

With a background in customer service, Luke has a deep understanding of customer needs. He is well-versed in Agile and DevOps methodologies, brings a strong working knowledge of DevOps principles and practices, as well as excels in coaching remote and distributed teams. In addition, Luke is a proponent of Design Thinking and Human-Centered Design methodologies. His personal philosophy mirrors that of Team Topologies: making work more humane and effective for everyone and believes in empowering smart people to focus on solving real problems for customers, free from organisational ambiguity and obstacles.

Outside of work, Luke enjoys spending time with his dog Tuesday, exploring nature, and cultivating native Australian plants. His favorite retreat is Aireys Inlet on the Great Ocean Road, where he can unwind and recharge by the beach.

Rob Roe combines the experience of a seasoned global executive in traditional companies and two startup unicorns with a personal mission of discovering and implementing what makes organisations effective. This mission led him to complete a Master's Thesis titled "Integral Business Architecture" and to co-author the book "Giving Hope," which focuses on the not-for-profit sector. As a Director of SignalRoad, his management experience and academic research have culminated in the BookCast, "Unlocking Change," which presents the Integral Map for Organisations.

Rob found that Team Topologies was the missing piece he had been looking for to complete the Integral Map for Organisation. Throughout his career in executive roles, living and managing teams worldwide, Rob observed recurring issues in both traditional firms and scale-ups. In his master’s thesis, he utilised Ken Wilber’s Integral Theory to outline what is needed to build an effective organisation. This analysis identified the root cause of many problems as the organisational structure. By applying Team Topologies, Rob has successfully developed a real-life organisation with recursive structures instead of functional silos. You can view his work here.

Rob is a unique blend of experiences, combining his background as a seasoned global executive in traditional companies with his involvement in two startup unicorns. Before founding SignalRoad, he implemented his organisational effectiveness strategies as Managing Director of OneTrust for Asia Pacific and Japan, and as Managing Director of AirWatch for Australia & New Zealand. His career, shaped by roles at Telstra (Australia), Gartner (USA), IBM (Asia Pacific, USA, Australia), and Vickers Ruwolt (Australia), has been pivotal in forming his innovative ideas and approaches.
