What are Expert Insight sessions?

You have decided to use Team Topologies (TT) as part of your transformation or new Target Operating Model, but how do you ensure that the Team Topologies ideas and patterns are being applied effectively and accurately? The answer: use Expert Insight sessions from the core Team Topologies group (authors and TTVPs).

Regular 2-hour Expert Insight sessions from Team Topologies provide you (or your end-customer) with confidence that any changes using TT principles and practices are truly aligned to the concepts of Team Topologies as they were originally intended. 

Gain regular access to the most up to date expertise in Team Topologies from the TT authors - Matthew Skelton and Manuel Pais - and Team Topologies Valued Practitioners (TTVPs). 

The format of Expert Insight sessions

Regular 2-hour sessions delivered via video call (Zoom, Google Meet, or MS Teams). We recommend that sessions happen once per day/week/month over a set time period. Each 2-hour session is run as one of a predefined set of formats, each with a ready-made digital canvas for exploration and Q&A (as needed). Expert Insight sessions are available in groups of 3 sessions.

What is in each Expert Insight session?

You choose the focus of each Expert Insight session. We recommend that you use of the predefined session formats (at least to begin with):

2. Ask Me Anything (AMA) session

3. Exploration sessions using standard digital canvas options, including: 

   1. How to run effective Enabling teams

   2. User Needs Mapping (UNM)

   3. Independent Service Heuristics (ISH)

   4. Platform as a Product

   5. Finding good team and architecture boundaries

4. For consulting and delivery organizations, there are additional formats available:

   1. Preparation session to coordinate on end-customer work.

   2. Implementation review sessions:  reflect on the implementation approach at the end customer and course-correct as needed.

If you are confident in designing and facilitating a session, you can leave the session format more free-form. 

How you decide to make use of the Expert Insight sessions will depend entirely on your current context, maybe you are:

• An organisation that wants to adopt and apply Team Topologies principles using an internal enabling team (or set of enabling teams)

• An organisation that wants to adopt and apply Team Topologies principles using an external partner acting as an enabling team (or set of enabling teams)

• A consulting and delivery provider helping an end customer to change the way they are organized using Team Topologies principles

• A consulting and delivery provider that wants to validate their understanding of the principles and practices before offering their services to end clients 

How the session time is split can be determined by you and your needs. If you are a business applying Team Topologies with an internal enabling team it might make sense for you to use all of the sessions as question and answer sessions. However, if you are a partner helping an end client it might be applicable to boost your client’s confidence by putting the TTVP in-front of the client for some or all of the available time. 

How many people can attend an Expert Insight session?

We generally find that interactive exploration sessions are suitable for up to about 15 people. Talks or AMA sessions can accommodate more people (up to 100) if the questions are facilitated by a facilitator.

What are the purchase options for Expert Insight sessions?

Expert Insight sessions are 2 hours long and are delivered by one or two Team Topologies Valued Practitioners (TTVPs). Each Expert Insight session costs €5000 excluding VAT and bulk purchase discounts are available on request.
