A section of the Getting Started with Team Topologies infographic

Based upon the concepts presented in the Getting started with Team Topologies infographic, this introductory workshop focuses on helping participants to understand how to start introducing Team Topologies into an organization and covers the following areas:

  1. Understand the teams you currently have

  2. Align and fit existing teams into the fundamental team types

  3. Define ways of limiting cognitive load on teams

  4. Use the “Reverse Conway” approach to produce software systems that are sustainable by the organization

  5. Understand team interactions and how they can be used to evolve the organization

  6. Drive and evolve (and limit) inter-team collaboration

  7. Make sure team structures are explicitly evolved over time

  8. Enable user team interactions to be a driver for organizational sensing

Workshop format

The workshop is run across 2 separate 3-hour sessions:

  1. Session 1 - Understand team types, what it means to limit cognitive load and concepts of aligning for “fast flow”.

  2. Session 2 - Develop an awareness of team interaction modes, team structure evolution and concepts of organizational sensing.

We recommend that these sessions are run on either the same day (morning and afternoon) or consecutive days. This helps to keep the material and ideas “front of mind” for attendees whilst giving some space for reflection (and normal work activities).

The workshops are delivered by authorized Team Topologies Learning Partners (TTLPs).

A common language for organizational design

The Getting Started with Team Topologies workshop is intended to educate leaders, managers and other staff members about how to begin using the Team Topologies principles and practices in a specific organization. Using carefully curated exercises, this workshop aims to help participants to learn via hands-on practice enabling them to easily articulate and engage with their peers using the common language of organizational design that Team Topologies surfaces and leads to higher quality conversations about team interactions.
