Foundation Workshop - Organization evolution using Team Interaction Modeling - P829

Team Topologies provides a combination of principles and practices that can help structure and evolve an organization for effective collaboration, autonomy, delivery focus, and product alignment. Using the Team Topologies shapes and diagramming principles, it is possible to create a series of snapshots of your organization at various points in time that help you to understand and reason behind how the teams within your organization communicate and interact. This workshop provides an in-depth introduction to how to use Team Interaction Modeling (TIM) to effectively capture, annotate and discuss organization evolution within the content of your organization.

Workshop outcomes

This hands-on workshop helps participants learn how to use TIM to identify, classify, and document their current team structures and communication channels, as well as adapt and improve them for faster value delivery.

It is based on the principles of Team Topologies and covers the following areas:

  • Understanding Team Topologies and Team Interaction Modeling (TIM)

  • Mapping existing teams to the four Fundamental Team Types

  • Capturing and visualizing team interactions using diagrams

  • Envisioning current and future state team interaction modes

  • Defining and implementing team evolutions

  • Managing and optimizing team cognitive load

  • Applying TIM effectively within your organization

Workshop format

The workshop is delivered in two separate 3-hour sessions:

  • Session 1 - Introduction to Team Topologies, Team Interaction Modeling, and mapping existing teams

  • Session 2 - Envisioning 'as-is' and 'to-be' team interaction modes, defining team evolutions, and managing cognitive load

We recommend running these sessions on the same day (morning and afternoon) or on consecutive days. This approach keeps the material fresh and allows for reflection and normal work activities in between.

The workshops are facilitated by authorized Team Topologies Valued Practitioners (TTVPs).

A practical approach to organizational design

Using hands-on exercises, this workshop enables participants to develop a deeper understanding of how TIM can help improve their organization's structure and lead to higher-quality team interactions and faster value delivery.
